Anakbayan Toronto and Anakbayan Canada just signed the open letter to URGE CANADIAN MPs TO GET RID OF DISCRIMINATION IN THE IMMIGRATION SYSTEM.
As migrants and children of migrant workers we know how family separation eats away from the relationships we hold on so dearly.
For years, hundreds of caregivers who wish to bring their families together in Canada have been denied because of medical inadmissibility. This basically means the government keep families apart because theythink family members with medical conditions and disabilities “would cause an ‘excessive demand’ on the health care system”; all while migrant worker applicants pay their taxes to the Canadian government.
“930 people were deemed to cause ‘excessive demand’ in 2014. That’s several thousands of people who are denied the ability to be with their families because of Canada’s discriminatory laws that punish people for their disabilities.”
We demand the removal of disabilism from Canadian Immigration Rules now Honourable Ahmed Hussan, P.C., M.P.
Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship
